Mississippi College Athletics Hall of Fame
The Choctaw football team’s third-leading rusher and third-leading scorer of all time, Tate collected 3,116 yards and 26 rushing touchdowns during an illustrious career that saw him earn All-Gulf South Conference First Team accolades in 1977. Twice named the team’s Best Offensive Player, in 1977 he posted the second-best single-season rushing yards-per-game total (131.9) in school history. The 1976 Choctaws team captain was a five-time All-GSC Player of the Week honoree and led the conference in rushing in 1977. He was selected in the seventh round of the 1978 NFL draft by the NFL’s Seattle Seahawks.
