Q: What style of dance does the MC Golden Girls perform?
 A: We perform hip-hop, game day pom, and game day jazz styles, with a strong emphasis on tradition and engaging with our fans! Visit our Instagram to see past performances.

Q: Other than strong performance at clinic and tryouts, what are you looking for in a recruit?
 A: We look for well-rounded dancers and students. The Golden Girls program is focused on building strong teams, disciplined athletes, and excellent ambassadors for our university. We are committed to helping you grow into an adaptable, hard-working team player, prepared for life beyond college.

Tryout Prep Clinic

Mar 15, 2026 2 p.m. - 4 p.m.  | A.E. Wood Coliseum

This clinic is open to high school students in 9th grade and up, college transfers, and current Mississippi College students who are interested in preparing to try out at the collegiate dance level. 

Participants will learn college-level dance skills and choreography while training alongside the MC Golden Girls Dance Team. This clinic provides valuable insight into the expectations, technique, and performance quality required for collegiate dance teams and serves as an excellent opportunity to prepare for future MC Golden Girls tryouts!

$25 (cash or check ONLY due the day of the clinic) Registration Link 

Checks may be made out to Mississippi College. 

All clinics are closed to the public, and no spectators are allowed. 

The details below apply to both clinics 

Check-in begins: 1:30 PM for both clinics 

Attire:

• Athletic tank or leotard
• Leggings or compression shorts 
• Hair pulled back out of the face 
• No jewelry
• Shoes (pirouette/jazz shoes and sneakers)

What to Bring:

• Plenty of water
• Snacks as needed
• Layers as needed
• Any braces or tape needed

To be eligible for the MC Golden Girls Dance Team, applicants must:

• Be currently enrolled as a full-time student at Mississippi College (12+ credit hours)
• Incoming freshmen and transfers must provide official acceptance letters from Mississippi College
• Have and maintain a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA
• Commit to attending both fall and spring semesters
• Submit all required tryout documents (listed below)

Audition Application 

Being a Golden Girl is a year-round commitment. The season begins shortly after auditions and concludes with our final performance season, typically in March, depending on the basketball schedule.

Dancers are expected to:

• Prioritize the team alongside academic responsibilities
• Manage time effectively to attend all practices, games, and events
• Represent Mississippi College with professionalism and pride

Practice Schedule: 3-4 days a week (typically between 4:00–7:00 PM, sometimes 6:00 AM )

Strength Training: 2 sessions per week in the MC weight room with a certified trainer

Camp: Attendance at UDA Home Camp at the beginning of the fall semester is mandatory.

Choreography

Dancers will work with a professional choreographer during the fall semester to prepare for competition routines.

Each member is responsible for raising funds to support the team. Fundraising events may include:

• Community sponsorships
• Spirit nights at local restaurants
• Junior Golden Girls Clinic
• Other team-led initiatives
  
  Additional funds may be required for optional camps or competitions.

There are 3 rounds of Auditions : 

1. Online First Round (new candidates)

2. In-Person Second Round (all candidates) April 17th 

3. In-Person Finals April 18th 

First Round: 

Candidates will submit: 

• Application Form (include 3 letters of recommendations for new candidates only) 
• Two Photos: 1 Headshot and 1 Full-Length Photo
• Two Videos: Introduction of themselves and 45- 60-second freestyle dance

(This is where candidates should perform any additional skills they would like to showcase.) 

Applications open February 16th and are DUE March 22nd

Audition candidates will receive a registration confirmation e-mail stating that their application was received. 

Second Round:

Candidates who make it past the first round will be invited in person for the second round. 

Candidates will be emailed the material to perform in groups for evaluation. The material will include a hip hop routine and a sideline. Candidates will also be asked to showcase the required technical elements listed below and complete an in-person fitness test. All candidates trying out must be present in person for the second round to be considered. 

Third Round: 

Those who are invited to the third round will complete an interview process with a panel of judges and the coaching staff. This will take place on the same day as the second round, so no additional travel is required. 

• Required technical elements:
• Turns in second (at least 3 consistent) 
• Pirouettes (at least triple both right & left) 
• Leaps and jumps (calypso, firebird, center leap)
• Right & Left high kicks (sequence of kicks will be sent to learn) 
• Fitness Test 
• 1 mile run 
• 10 push-ups 
• 1-minute plank 
• The fitness test will be completed during the second round of auditions after all choreography and technical elements have been completed.

• Fitted top or leotard (any color/style)
• Black leggings
• Jazz shoes/ pirouettes
• Athletic shoes
• Hair and makeup game-day ready

• Video tryouts are not accepted for in-person rounds– in-person attendance is required
