CLINTON, Miss. — Mississippi College has been honored for its outstanding commitment to academic excellence among student-athletes, earning the John C. and Ernestine McCall Halbrook Award for Academic Achievement Among Athletes for both the men's and women's divisions for the 2024–25 academic year.
The prestigious awards, presented annually by the Mississippi Association of Colleges and Universities (MACU), recognize colleges and universities that achieve exceptional academic success and maintain high graduation rates among student-athletes. The Halbrook Awards program was endowed by former Mississippi Representative David Halbrook Sr. and his brothers in memory of their parents, John and Ernestine McCall Halbrook.
Mississippi College was recognized for having the highest percentage of student-athletes graduating, completing their programs, or successfully transferring during the 2024–25 academic year. This marks another milestone in the university's long-standing commitment to balancing academic and athletic excellence.
"This recognition is a tremendous honor and a reflection of the hard work and character of our student-athletes," said Athletic Director Kenny Bizot. "At Mississippi College, we take great pride in developing individuals who pursue excellence not only on the field but also in the classroom and within their communities. These awards affirm the collective effort of our coaches, faculty, and staff in fostering an environment where academic success is the standard."
The Halbrook Awards serve to highlight institutions that uphold the highest academic standards for student-athletes while encouraging and supporting degree completion.
