CLINTON, Miss. — The Mississippi College women's soccer team used a dominant performance on both ends of the field to cruise past Mississippi Valley State, 7–0, in exhibition play Tuesday at Longabaugh Field.
The Lady Choctaws struck early and often, scoring four first-half goals before adding three more after the break. MC outshot the Devilettes 33–1 overall and held a commanding 13–1 edge in shots on goal.
Senior defender Lillie Young opened the scoring with a goal and an assist, while Amelie Wittenkamp also recorded a goal and an assist in the victory. Olivia Graham, Paula Catalan, Parker St. Amant, Summer Utzig, and freshman Gracie Davis rounded out the scoring, with Jaylen Bodry and Jadyn Mallory adding assists.
The Choctaws defense was equally stout, not allowing a single shot on target until the second half. Goalkeepers Celine Grothe and Brynn Hedberg split time in net, combining for the clean sheet while facing just one shot on goal.
Mississippi College also kept control in the midfield, led by captain Vail Wartes, who tallied a game-high eight shots and created consistent pressure in the attacking third.
The exhibition served as a final tune-up before MC heads on the road for one of its toughest stretches of the season. The Lady Choctaws open the regular season Thursday, Sept. 5 at Dallas Baptist at 7:30 p.m., followed by a matchup at Texas Woman's on Saturday, Sept. 6 at 1 p.m.
