CLINTON, Miss. — Mississippi College sophomore midfielder Vail Wartes earned United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division II All-South Region Second Team honors for the 2025 season, the organization announced.
A native of Brandon, Mississippi, Wartes emerged as one of the Choctaws' most consistent and impactful attacking players, helping guide Mississippi College to a berth in the Gulf South Conference Tournament. She appeared in all 18 matches during the season, making 18 starts and logging 1,383 minutes in the midfield.
Wartes finished the year with five goals and 10 assists, totaling 27 points, while recording 27 shots and placing 13 on goal. Her assist total ranked among the team leaders, and she played a key role in generating offense throughout conference play, often serving as the catalyst in transition and buildup.
Mississippi College closed the regular season with a 5-5-2 mark in GSC play, earning several notable road victories, including a 1-0 win at nationally ranked Lee and a 4-0 shutout at Auburn Montgomery. Wartes contributed to multiple match-winning efforts, including game-changing performances during the Choctaws' late-season push toward postseason qualification.
The All-South Region honor marks another milestone for Wartes, who continues to establish herself as one of the conference's premier midfielders. She is Mississippi College's lone representative on the 2025 United Soccer Coaches All-South Region teams.
United Soccer Coaches All-Region honors recognize the top student-athletes across Division II, as voted on by head coaches within each region.
