JACKSON, Tenn.--- Four members of the Mississippi College women's soccer team picked up Division 2 Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) All-South Region honors as announced on Tuesday (Nov. 15th).
Beatrice Currie,
Avery Hederman, and
Erin Hederman are all 1st team All-Region selections, while
Emma Young is a 2nd team selection.
Beatrice Currie (a graduate student forward out of Nova Scotia, Canada) picks up 1st team All-Region honors to go along with her 1st team All-GSC selection this year. Currie was also a member of the GSC Tournament All-Tournament team as well. Currie was a 2nd team All-Region selection a year ago. She led the Lady Choctaws in goals this year with 16, which was top five in the GSC in the regular season. Currie also added 6 assists to her tally, which put her at 38 points on the season (tied for 3rd most in the GSC in the regular season). Currie also tallied 1,397 minutes played on the year, 4th most on the squad. Four of Currie's goals on the year were game-winners (tied for the team lead).
Avery Hederman (a junior midfielder out of Jackson, Miss.) picks up her second consecutive D2CCA 1st team All-Region selection (the only player in the region to do so). Hederman was also a 1st team All-GSC selection this year and was a member of the GSC Tournament All-Tournament team.
Avery Hederman led the GSC in assists this season with 16 (which also broke the MC women's soccer program's single-season record and is among the tops in all of Division II this season). She also added 6 goals on the season as well (two of which went down as game-winners). She played 1,715 minutes on the season as well, which was the second most on the team as she was a key piece facilitating out of MC's midfield.
Erin Hederman (a junior forward out of Jackson, Miss.) also earns 1st team All-Region honors.
Erin Hederman finished the year with double-digit goals and assists as she scored 15 goals to go along with 11 assists (Both marks were 2nd on the team and top five in the conference). Hederman also led the team with 41 points on the year. She also scored four game-winning goals on the year, which was tied for the team lead.
Erin Hederman was a D2CCA 2nd team All-Region selection in 2019. She was also recently named a 1st team All-GSC selection this year and was also named the Most Outstanding Player of the Gulf South Conference Tournament.
Emma Young (a junior defender out of Lafayette, La.) adds a 2nd team All-Region honor to her season after leading MC's defensive unit. Young scored 1 goal on the year, plus added an assist. She was also third on the team in minutes played this season with 1,531. Young was a 1st team All-Region selection last year as she also earned United Soccer Coaches 1st team All-American honors as well. Young was a 1st team All-GSC selection this year, and was also named to the GSC Tournament All-Tournament team.
MC tied for the most players selected to the two All-Region teams combined (alongside West Florida and Embry-Riddle) with four.
The D2CCA (Division II Conference Commissioners Association) All-South Region teams pick the best players from the South Region which consists of the Gulf South Conference along with the Sunshine State Conference. The teams were voted on by the region's Sports Information Directors.
The first team honorees from the All-Region team will now advance to the national All-American ballot with those teams set to be announced on November 30th.
