CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's soccer team will play for the Gulf South Conference Spring Championship Series Tournament Championship on Saturday when they face #2 Lee University at 12:00 p.m. at John Hunt Park in Huntsville, Ala.

THE SERIES
The teams have played 10 previous times with Lee holding a 6-3-1 edge in the series. MC is 2-0 all-time when the squads play in Clinton, but the Flames have the 6-1-1 advantage when played away from the Lady Choctaws' campus.
Each of the last four years, the teams have met in postseason play, whether GSC or NCAA competition. In 2016, the Lady Choctaws advanced to the GSC Championship match with a penalty kick victory in the semifinals. Over the last three years, the Flames have eliminated MC from postseason play.
In the last two seasons, the Lady Choctaws have picked up 3-1 victories over the Flames in the regular season, including a two-goal victory in Cleveland in 2019. Both seasons, however, Lee came back in the postseason (2018 NCAA and 2019 GSC) and avenged the loss with a one-goal victory.

The Lady Choctaws are led by the only head coach in school history,
Darryl Longabaugh, who is in his 24th season at the helm. He has won 291 career matches and has led MC to three straight NCAA Tournament appearances (2017-19) alongside back-to-back GSC Championship match appearances (2016-17).
MC has yet to allow more than one goal in a single match this season, but they have faced adversity by needing come-from-behind victories in three straight wins over West Alabama (03.05), Delta State (03.11) and UAH (03.21).
Erin Hederman (Jackson, Miss.) is the team's leading scorer with six goals, including both tallies in the win over UWA in the semifinals match last Sunday. She has four game-winning goals this season and scored twice in the victory over Union (02.28), as well.
Eight different Lady Choctaws have found the back of the net this season with
Beatrice Currie (Sydney River, Nova Scotia) also notching multiple goals and tying with
Avery Hederman (Jackson, Miss.) for a team-best three assists.
The balanced offensive attack also features nine different players with helpers this season, including five players with a goal and an assist, led by
Emily McNair (Ridgeland, Miss.) and
Lindsey Stephenson (Brandon, Miss.).
The defense has given up just 35 shots all season long and has been led by
Lexi Ballon (Austin, Texas) and
Kaylee Foster (Ocean Springs, Miss.). Foster came up big in the overtime win over rival Delta State, scoring the "golden goal" from a free kick in Cleveland.
In goal, the Lady Choctaws have used a pair of keepers with
Sara Maleski (South Elgin, Ill.) playing all 180 minutes in the postseason. Last week in the win over West Alabama, she saved two penalty kick opportunities and made five total saves in the victory.
Ebba Elweroth (Rydebäck, Sweden) went 4-0 this season with a 0.71 goals against average and two shutouts which Maleski was injured.
