CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's soccer team will look to advance to the Gulf South Conference Spring Championship Series Tournament championship match when they host West Alabama at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday afternoon at Arrow Field at Clinton High School.
The teams have met eight previous times with the Lady Choctaws holding a 6-2 edge in the series, including winning six straight. The teams played on March 5th with MC coming back to get a 2-1 victory on the strength of goals from
Beatrice Currie (17') and
Dani Avelar (71').

(1A) MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE (6-0-0, 5-0-0 GSC)

The Lady Choctaws entered the tournament as the #1 seed from Group A after going 5-0 in league play. They have not lost a GSC regular season match since October 25, 2018 (West Florida, 1-0).
MC opened this year's GSC SCS Tournament with a 3-1 win over UAH, scoring three second-half goals to earn the come-from-behind victory. Currie and
Erin Hederman each notched a goal and an assist, while
Emily McNair tied the match with her first goal of the season in the 51st minute.
Erin Hederman leads MC with four goals scored and a team-high nine points, while Currie has two goals on the season. Eight different Lady Choctaws have scored goals and tallied assists this season, led by
Avery Hederman with three helpers.
The MC defense has allowed just four goals this season, and no one has scored more than one in a single match this season. The back line, led by
Lexi Ballon and
Kaylee Foster, have given up just 31 shots in six matches.
Ebba Elweroth and
Sara Maleski have combined to post a 0.66 goals against average this year.

(3A) WEST ALABAMA (5-2-1, 2-2-1 GSC)

The Tigers are the #3 seed from Group A after going 5-2-1 with a 2-2-1 mark in GSC play in the shortened season. They opened the tournament with a 1-0 win over Shorter before pulling off a come-from-behind 3-2 win over Valdosta State last Sunday.
Anele Komani is the team leader with four goals scored and two assists, while Megan Ongteco has three goals scored, including the one UWA had against the Lady Choctaws back on March 5th. Tabitha Weldon has played every minute in net for the Tigers, posting a 0.94 goals against average with three shutouts.

Mississippi College is a private Christian university located in Clinton, Mississippi with an enrollment of over 5,000 students. MC recently finished their transition process back to NCAA Division II and the Gulf South Conference and began competing for conference and national championships in the 2016-17 academic year.
