Choctaw Senior Spotlight: Carly Crawford (Softball)

CLINTON, Miss. --- Spring sports seniors across the nation had their collegiate careers cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

A time-honored tradition across all athletic departments is to celebrate "Senior Day" by recognizing each of the members of their senior class for their efforts while a part of their program.

At Mississippi College, we wanted to let each one of our spring sports student-athletes have their own "Senior Day" to thank them for their time as Choctaws and Lady Choctaws. Their contributions to their teams and the athletic department will always be remembered.

CARLY CRAWFORD --- SOFTBALL

A native of Hattiesburg, Miss., Carly Crawford was a three-time First Team All-Gulf South Conference selection and two-time All-Region selection while starting 155 career games behind the plate for the Lady Choctaws.

"I've had the absolute privilege of coaching Carly for four years," said head coach Brooke O'Hair. "She is such a talented a special athlete. Carly is a student of the game and controls the action and the pitchers better than any catcher I've ever coached. She's fierce behind and at the plate as a hitter. Carly will forever be remembered for her many accomplishments on the field and her mentorship to her teammates. She's someone every opponent will be happy to see graduate and someone we will sincerely miss.

"Carly, thanks for giving MC and myself a chance so long ago," O'Hair went on. "You left your mark on this program and I'm grateful to have had the opportunity to be a part of your journey. Thanks for believing in me all those years ago. I'm going to miss you."

Carly was a First Team All-GSC selection as a freshman in 2017 and helped lead the Lady Choctaws to the conference championship and a trip to the NCAA South Regional while earning All-Tournament honors. She then helped guide MC to the GSC Tournament in 2018 and 2019 with another trip to the NCAA Tournament in 2019.

The Oak Grove HS standout leaves with her name all over the MC Softball record book, finishing 2nd in school history in hit-by-pitch (29), just one behind Leslie Shumock (2004-07). She also ranks 3rd in school history in doubles (37) and RBI (122) and 4th in home runs (21).

"Carly was a machine behind the plate with a true passion and love for the game," said assistant coach Leigh Streetman. "She helped lead this team and program for four years. While being a student of the game, she was also a teacher. She took others in and helped grow their knowledge in different areas.

"Carly, thank you for your dedication to MC Softball and leaving your mark on this program," Streetman finished.

The Kinesiology (Exercise Science) major is the daughter of Janet and Keith Crawford.

Every day for the next five weeks, we will recognize a senior for their contributions on and off the field for their respective programs. The baseball, softball, golf, tennis and track & field programs will all be represented in alphabetical order, regardless of sport.
