Women's Soccer Preview: NCAA Sweet Sixteen

CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's soccer team will face the #4 seed Lee University Flames in the NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Championship Tournament Sweet Sixteen this Friday Nov. 16th at 6 P.M. Central time from the Lee University Soccer Field in Cleveland Tennessee. The winner of Friday's match will then advance to the Elite Eight and face the winner of the Southeast Regional Final between #1 seed Columbus State and #6 seed Lincoln Memorial.

MC NOTES
- The Lady Choctaws (16-3-0) were named the #3 seed in the South Region on Monday, Nov. 5th during the NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Selection Show, and are coming out of the Barry Sub-Regional where they defeated the #6 seed Nova Southeastern 3-0 and the host and #2 seed Barry 2-1.
- It was a historic trip to Miami this past weekend for the Lady Choctaws as they made history with both victories. The win over Nova Southeastern was the program's first win in the NCAA Tournament ever and the win over Barry advanced MC to the furthest the program has ever been in the NCAA Tournament.
- The MC offense exploded in Miami this past weekend scoring five goals total in their two tournament matches. Lauren Smith, Katie Taylor, Lindsey Stephenson and Rita Okoro all scored goals for the Lady Choctaws over the weekend.
- Okoro has been the breakout star of the tournament so far for the Lady Choctaws. The grad transfer scored a goal in both matches in Miami and both of her goals were the eventual game winners. She scored the first goal of the match against Nova Southeastern and her goal against Barry broke the 1-1 tie and gave the Lady Choctaws the 2-1 lead which was the eventual final.
- The Lady Choctaw defense was also excellent in the team's trip to Miami. The team posted their 10th shutout of the season against Nova Southeastern and the defense was the key to victory in the second half against Barry, which was Barry's only loss of 2018. Andrea McDonald had two outstanding performances in goal over the weekend, recording 10 saves on 22 shots faced.

LEE NOTES
- The Flames (15-6-1) were named the #4 seed in the South Region on Monday, Nov. 5th during the NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Selection Show, and are coming off of two overtime victories in the first weekend of tournament play.

- The two players to watch for the Flames are Mia Hollingsworth and Kelsey Yoder. Hollingsworth, a senior from Libertyville, Ill., earned All-Gulf South Conference first team honors and has scored an amazing 13 goals on the year with 5 assists.
