CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's soccer team will open up Gulf South Conference play this weekend, hosting West Alabama on Friday Sept. 8 and Alabama Huntsville on Sunday, Sept. 10.
MC NOTES
- The Lady Choctaws are coming off of an opening weekend that saw them post a record of 1-0-1 over their first two matches. The Lady Choctaws defeated Rollins College 1-0 on Friday, Sept. 1 and played to a scoreless draw against #13 ranked North Georgia on Sunday, Sept. 3.
- In the most recent United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division II Poll, the Lady Choctaws were tabbed 19th in the country, and third in the South Regional Rankings.
- On the offensive side of the ball, the Lady Choctaws have taken 14 shots on the season, for an average of seven per contest. Of the Lady Choctaws 14 shots, seven of them have been on goal, for an efficient shot on goal percentage of 50 percent.
- Junior midfielder Samantha Carson currently leads the Lady Choctaws with one goal scored on the season, while reigning GSC Defender of the Week Caitlin Hayes and sophomore Lauren Kate Carter pace the Lady Choctaws with one assist each.
- Through two games, the Lady Choctaws are led by their stout defense that has yet to allow a goal. Through 200 minutes of play, MC has surrendered just 19 shots, while allowing only three shots on goal.
- In goal both Andrea McDonald and Gabby Kayser have recorded shutouts on the season for the Lady Choctaws. Both MC keepers also have registered a save percentage of 1.000 percent, which leads the conference.
- Five Lady Choctaws made debut for MC over the course of last weekend's opening slate. Scarlett Hodges, Emily McNair, Madison Moser, Holly Pascoe and Lindsey Stephenson all saw action for the first time as a member of the MC women's soccer team.
WEST ALABAMA NOTES
- The West Alabama Tigers head into Friday's action with a record of 1-1 on the season, with a 3-0 loss to Tusculum College in their season opener on Friday, Sept. 1 and 1-0 victory over Saint Leo University on Sunday, Sept. 3.
- The Tigers are currently averaging .50 goals per game, while allowing an average of 1.50 goals per game. The Tigers defense is currently allowing 14.5 shots per contest.
- West Alabama is led by reigning GSC Freshman of the Week, Anele Komani, who scored the Tigers lone goal in their 1-0 victory over Saint Leo. Komani leads an attack that is averaging 11 shots per game.
- In goal, Jenni Aarniva leads the conference with 13 saves through two games. The Tiger keeper is currently averaging 6.5 saves per contest, a mark that ranks third among GSC keepers.
UAH NOTES
- The Chargers of Alabama-Huntsville head into this weekend's action with a record of 1-0-1 in 2017. The Chargers fell to McKendry University 1-0 on Thursday, Aug. 31 and knocked off Tusculum University 3-1 on Saturday, Sept. 2
- The UAH squad is currently averaging 1.50 goals per contest, while averaging eight shots per game. Ten of the chargers 16 shots taken on the season have been on frame, for an efficiency of 0.625 percent.
- Lauren Mayer, Mia Penton and Baylie Spring all Pace the Lady Charger attack with one goal apiece on the season. Sydney Pfankuch and Riley Ridgeway both lead the Chargers with an assist a piece on the year.
- Keeper Megan Buford's 13 saves paces the GSC for most by a keeper. Buford's save percentage of 86 percent currently serves as third in the GSC, behind MC's keeper duo.
- The Chargers will take on Delta State University on Friday, Sept. 8, prior to their Sunday afternoon matchup with the Choctaws.
SERIES HISTORY
- The Lady Choctaws bring an all-time record of 1-2 versus West Alabama and a mark of 2-1 against UAH. In 2016, The Lady Choctaws knocked off the Tigers 1-0 in Livingston, Ala. and defeated the Chargers 3-0 in Huntsville, Ala.
