CLEVELAND, Miss. --- The Mississippi College baseball team secured a split at 12th-ranked Delta State University as the Choctaws knocked off its in-state foes 6-2 in the final game of the season. DSU claimed the opener 23-6.

Tyler Scholl pitched the final frame for the Navy and Gold. The senior hurler finishes in the top five in career saves and resets the single-season appearance leader marks with his 27th of his final season.

Four Choctaws recorded multiple hits in series finale led by
Blaine Crim's three hits.
Caleb Upton,
Hunter Bolin and
Hunter Hall each recorded two hits as Upton paced the squad with four RBI in his final time in a Choctaw uniform.

MC plated three runs in first inning as Upton cranked his fourth home run of the season with a three-run shot to left center. The Choctaws added three more in the top of the second as Ferrell and Upton both drew RBI walks with a Crim RBI-single sandwiched between.

DSU plated its second run of the game in the fifth inning after registering its first in the home half of the opening inning.

Tommy Taborda (2-4) recorded the win on the mound in relief with 2.2 innings of work. The freshman allowed just one run on two hits with a strikeout and walk.
Matt Payne, the MC starter, tossed 2.1 innings allowed just one run on seven hits.

Parker Watts also saw time on the bump with an inning of action.

After tying the contest at 5-all through the first two innings, the Statesmen rattled 18 straight runs in the following four innings, including nine in fifth to secure the series.

MC garnered RBI hits from
Will Elliott,
Hunter Hall,
Hunter Bolin and
Blaine Crim in the top of the second. Elliott and Hall posted back-to-back doubles to plate the first three runs for the Choctaws. After a Bolin, RBI single to cut the lead to a run, Crim added a RBI single to right field to tie the contest at 5-all.

Hall, who tied with Upton for tops on the team with two hits in the opener, also drove in a run in the sixth as he scored
Toler Robinson. Hall drove in three total runs in the first outing.

Samuel Harrison (3-6) took the loss on the mound. The freshman tossed 4.0 innings as he allowed 10 runs – six earned – 12 hits with a walk and strikeout.

The split concludes the 2016 campaign for Mississippi College who posts a 17-30 record and 7-25 in conference play.
