CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College baseball team returns to action this weekend as it travels to Florence, Ala., to face the University of North Alabama in a three-game, Gulf South Conference weekend series. The series opens with a doubleheader on Saturday, Apr.9 and concludes on Sunday, Apr. 10 with a single game. First pitch both days is scheduled for 1 p.m.
Â
Saturday's opener marks the 42nd meeting between Mississippi College and North Alabama with the Lions holding a 32-8-1 advantage. Prior to last season, the two squads hadn't faced each other since 1996 - the last time the Choctaws claimed a win over UNA. The lone tie in the series came in a 5-all affair in 1984. UNA and MC have met three times in the GSC Tournament with UNA holding a 2-1 lead.
Â
The last time the two teams met in Florence was during the 1993 campaign with UNA going 2-1. The two teams have faced off the last seven times in Clinton, including UNA's season sweep last season.
Â
MC skipper
Jeremy Haworth is 1-2 all-time as a coach against North Alabama with those three outings coming at Ouachita Baptist during the 2012 campaign while UNA head coach Mike Keehn is 3-0 against the Choctaws in his eight-year career.
Â
MC was nipped on Tuesday at LSU-Shreveport 9-8 as the Choctaws were edged by a walk-off, RBI single. MC tied a season-high with 15 hits as Choctaws totaled multiple hits in the affair.
Â
The Choctaws look to snap a six-game skid entering the weekend. MC is led by
Hunter Bolin at the plate as the senior has posted a .410 clip and registered 43 hits.
Logan Ferrell sits behind his fellow senior with a .350 batting average and 41 hits. On the mound,
Jake Fraze has compiled a team-best five wins on the mound while leading the team in innings pitched (57.0) and second in strikeouts with 33.
Samuel Harrison leads the team in Ks with 48 and is second in innings (54.1).
Tyler Scholl paces the team with a 2.42 ERA.
