CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College baseball team closes out the 2016 season as the Choctaws (16-28, 6-23 Gulf South Conference) travel to Cleveland, Miss., to face in-state foe 12th-ranked Delta State University for a three-game, GSC series. First pitch of the Saturday doubleheader is slated for 12 p.m. Sunday's finale is also set for 2 p.m.
 
Mississippi College and Delta State have met 154 times heading into this season's meetings. The Statesmen holding a 113-39-2 advantage in the series. The last time the two teams met in Cleveland, Miss., was 1996.
 
Last season marked the first time the two in-state foes met on the diamond since 1996 when the Choctaws made the move to Division III. Prior to the pause in the series the two teams had met at least once every year since 1960. The series dates back to 1937.
 
MC claimed a 12-4 win at William Carey on Tuesday - securing a season sweep over the Crusaders. Blaine Crim picked up hits third win of the season while four Choctaws recorded multiple hit efforts in the win. Caleb Upton recorded the first grand slam of the season while Will Elliot led the team with four hits. Crim added three hits. Ferrell and Upton tied with two hits each.
 
On the season, Hunter Bolin leads the team with 59 hits and a .386 batting average. Ferrell ranks second on the team with 58 hits and a .358 clip. Crim's 31 RBI leads the team. Jake Fraze and Samuel Harrison lead the MC hurlers. Both have recorded 73 innings while Harrison leads the team with 62 strikeouts. Fraze ranks second on the team with 45 followed by Parker Watts' 42. Tyler Scholl sits one appearance away from resetting the record book as the career leader in appearances and one save away from moving into the top five in career saves.
 
DSU had a four-game win streak snapped last weekend in a 8-7 loss to Valdosta State - ending the chance at a three-game sweep over the Blazers. The Statesmen have six batters hitting over .333 this season led by Will Robertson's team-best .443 clip. Robertson also leads the team with 64 RBI and 78 hits. Dalton Moats and Tre Hobbs pace the Green and White's pitching staff. The two have tossed 80-plus innings and have combined for 149 strikeouts led by Moats' 88.
