CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College baseball team will host Selma University for a mid-week doubleheader on Thursday afternoon at Frierson Field. First pitch is schedule for 2:00 p.m.
The Choctaws (7-14, 2-12 GSC) opened the season with six straight wins, but they have struggled over the past few weeks, losing 12 straight overall. However, during the tough stretch, MC has dropped three games by one run and seven of the games have been decided by three runs or less.
Senior
Jayme Monroe is scheduled to make his first start of the season on Thursday after recovering from an injury following last season. The Clinton native went 5-5 with a 3.28 ERA in 2014, tossing two complete games, including a shutout.
Junior
Kyle Cumlander is slated to start the second game on the hill after his best outing of the season against West Georgia on March 8th. The Mobile native allowed five unearned runs over 4.2 innings.
Junior
Caleb Upton had a big weekend against Lee, going 5-for-10 with a home run, three runs scored and two RBI. In the series opener, the Natchez native went 4-for-4 with a long ball.
Freshman
Kyle Smith earned his first career start in the series finale against Lee on Monday, going 2-for-3 with a run scored. The Petal native started six games at quarterback for the Choctaw football team this season.
The Choctaws will be back in action this weekend when they travel to Livingston for a three-game series with West Alabama, beginning with a doubleheader on Satruday at 2:00 p.m.
