Sophomore D.J. Smith has been named Mississippi College Renasant Bank Male Athlete of the Week, it was announced on Monday (Oct. 22).

Smith (Opelika, Ala.) helped seal a 37-24 victory over Shorter University with a 73-yard interception return for a touchdown in the final minutes. The pick-six came on fourth down to halt a Hawks' drive that could have tied the game.

On the season, D.J has tallied 12 tackles, including eight solo stops with 2.5 tackles for loss and a sack. His interception return for a touchdown was the second of the season for the MC defense after Turner Rotenberry picked one off a took it to the house against Clark Atlanta in the season opener.

Smith and the Choctaws will celebrate "Homecoming" this week, hosting #3 West Georgia on Saturday (Oct. 27) at 3:00 p.m. at Robinson-Hale Stadium.
