Choctaws Fall Short Against Henderson State

CLINTON, Miss. --- MC baseball fell to Henderson State 8-5 on Tuesday, Feb. 17 at Frierson Field. MC moves to 4-8 on the season while the Reddies improve to 5-3.

Will Langston recorded a season-high total of three hits and an RBI while Tyler Sanderson contributed with a double and drove in two runs. It marked the second multiple-hit effort of the season for Langston and Sanderson's team-leading fourth multi-RBI performance.

The Choctaws jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning as JT Thigpen walked and Langston singled ahead of Sanderson's two-run double down the right field line. HSU answered in the fourth, tying the game on RBI hits from Adam Garcia and Grant Fitch, but MC regained a 3-2 edge in the bottom half when Johnson scored on Cade Gadman's ground out.

The Reddies took control in the sixth, capitalizing on a fielding error and several free passes to score four runs, highlighted by Nate Moore's two-RBI single, to move in front 6-3. MC trimmed the deficit in the seventh when Nick Slonaker scored on Langston's RBI single.

HSU added two unearned runs in the eighth on a double by Mason Krznarich to extend the lead to 8-4. The Choctaws pushed across one run in the bottom of the inning on Sam Kachourof's RBI ground out, but the Reddies closed out for the three-run victory.

Eight hurlers saw the mound for the Blue and Gold in the game as Kamryn Carlisle (1-1) took the setback on the mound. He allowed three runs on a hit and a strikeout in two—thirds of an inning. Connor Pittman drew the start, going 2.2 frames, fanning a pair and walking two in his third start of the season.

David Andrus (1-1) picked up the win, tossing an inning and giving up a hit in relief. Moore paced the Reddies at the dish with two hits and drove in two. Krznarich matched Moore with a pair of RBI.

MC returns to Gulf South Conference action on Friday, Feb. 20 as it hosts Montevallo. First pitch is 2 p.m.
