CLINTON, Miss. — Mississippi College men's soccer will begin the 2025 season with four players named to the Gulf South Conference Preseason All-GSC Team, as announced by the league office Tuesday. Goalkeeper Cole Turner, defender Gage Sorey, midfielder Sergio Garrido, and forward Lewis Matton each earned recognition, while the Choctaws were picked fourth in the league's preseason coaches poll.
Turner returns as one of the GSC's top goalkeepers after anchoring MC's defense a season ago. Sorey earned distinction as a standout in the back line, while Garrido will play a key role in controlling the midfield. Matton, one of the league's most dangerous attacking threats, rounded out the Choctaws' quartet of preseason honorees.
West Florida, the defending GSC champion, topped the preseason poll with 117 points and eight first-place votes. Auburn Montgomery followed with 106 points and two first-place votes, and Christian Brothers came in third with 105 points and two first-place nods. Mississippi College collected 81 points to slot fourth, just ahead of Lee (71) and West Alabama (67).
Delta State checked in at seventh with 53 points, while Trevecca Nazarene and Montevallo tied for eighth. UAH (41), Spring Hill (33), and Union (22) rounded out the 12-team preseason rankings.
The Choctaws, coming off a strong 2024 campaign, will look to build on that momentum as they chase another postseason berth. MC opens the regular season later this month with a non-conference slate before beginning league play in September.
