CLINTON, Miss. — Mississippi College (6-5, 3-2 Gulf South) fell to UAH (8-3, 3-2 Gulf South) with a final score of 72-68 on Thursday night at A.E. Wood Coliseum. The Choctaws led by three points at halftime, but UAH surged back in the second half, outscoring the home team by eight points.
Mississippi College and UAH opened their contest with a tightly contested first half. UAH took an early 5-0 lead with a 3-pointer by Matthew Thurman and a layup from Jordan Mabe. MC responded with
DeMarcus Powe scoring consecutive jumpers to narrow the gap. UAH's Quentin Toles contributed a 3-pointer and a layup to maintain their edge, but The Blue and Gold's Powe hit back-to-back 3-pointers to give the home team a late lead. The half concluded with
Phil Nelson's buzzer-beating layup, allowing MC to secure a narrow 35-32 advantage at halftime.
The Choctaws extended their lead early in the second half with a fast break dunk by
Avaughn Johnson at the 20:00 mark. UAH's Matthew Thurman responded with a jumper to keep the game close at 19:46. Johnson maintained the home team's momentum with a 3-pointer assisted by
Jakob Vigneault, pushing the score to 42-36. Despite MC's efforts, UAH closed the gap, tying the game at 60 with a pair of free throws by Jordan Mabe at 8:23. In a tense finish, Quentin Toles secured UAH's victory with two free throws at 00:21, resulting in a final score of 72-68 in favor of UAH.
