CLINTON, Miss. — The Blue and Gold were edged out by Lee 2-1 on Friday at Robert P. Longabaugh Field despite taking 17 shots and allowing only four shots on goal.
Mississippi College opened the scoring in the sixth minute with a goal by
Olivia Graham, assisted by
Erin Stamatopoulos. Despite a strong offensive effort with multiple shots on target, the home team was unable to extend their lead. Lee University capitalized on their opportunities, equalizing in the 22nd minute through Alaysia Nye before Nora Burton's goal in the 33rd minute gave them a 2-1 advantage at the end of the first half.
Mississippi College consistently pressured Lee's defense throughout the second half, recording eight shots, though only three were on target and saved by Lee's goalkeeper. Meanwhile, Lee responded with seven shots, with
Celine Grothe making two crucial saves for the Choctaws. The half saw both teams struggle to find the back of the net, concluding with a scoreless half as Lee maintained their 2-1 lead.
Olivia Graham scored the team's only goal, converting one of her two shots on target.
Erin Stamatopoulos provided the team's sole assist and registered a shot on goal.
Parker St. Amant led the effort with four shots, though none were on target.
Celine Grothe made two saves while facing thirteen shots, conceding two goals in the full 90 minutes.
