CLINTON, Miss. — Mississippi College mounted a spirited comeback but ultimately fell short against West Florida, 74-69, in Gulf South Conference action on Saturday afternoon at A.E. Wood Coliseum.
The Choctaws (6-8, 2-6Â GSC) found themselves in an early 22-6 hole with 11 minutes remaining in the first half. However, behind the strong offensive performance of Rashad Bolden, they rallied to trail just 41-39 at halftime.
Bolden led all scorers with 29 points, shooting 10-of-25 from the field, including six three-pointers. Tyshun Briscoe also contributed 18 points on a perfect 5-of-5 shooting, adding seven free throws, while Tremaine Dixon chipped in 12 points.
West Florida (4-9, 3-4Â GSC) capitalized on its balanced scoring attack and efficient shooting. Xavier Glenn and Shay Davis led the Argonauts with 14 and 13 points, respectively, while Elijah Wyche added 12 points and six rebounds.
Despite shooting 48% from the field in the first half, Mississippi College struggled offensively in the second, connecting on just 38% of their shots. West Florida maintained composure late in the game, using timely free throws and defensive stops to seal the victory.
The Choctaws out-rebounded the Argonauts 30-28 but were hindered by 13 turnovers. West Florida's bench added key contributions, scoring 23 points compared to just four from the Mississippi College reserves.
Mississippi College returns to action on Thursday as they travel to take on Lee in another GSC matchup. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. in Cleveland,Tenn.
