CLEVELAND, Tenn. — Mississippi College (10-17, 7-14 Gulf South) fell to Lee (12-12, 9-11 Gulf South) with a final score of 74-81 on Saturday at Walker Arena. Mississippi Col. tallied 15 assists and 32 rebounds, but Lee's 10 three-pointers helped secure the win.
The first half began with Lee taking an early lead, highlighted by a 3-pointer from Tylon Chatman at the 17:47 mark, assisted by Tim Vaughn. MC responded as
Josh Holman scored a layup and free throw to briefly put them ahead. Lee's Zach Gray extended the home team's lead with a three-pointer with 7:06 remaining. Despite a strong effort from The Blue and Gold, including a crucial 3-pointer by
DeMarcus Powe, Lee maintained its advantage. The period concluded with Lee leading 37-32, following a final pair of free throws by
Phil Nelson with five seconds remaining.
Lee maintained a lead throughout the second half, outscoring MC 44-42 in the half. Willie Walton sparked Lee's offense early with a block and a 3-pointer, widening the gap to 44-32 at the 17:19 mark. Powe countered for MC with a 3-pointer and a layup, narrowing the deficit briefly. However, Dayveun Anderson's consistent scoring, including a crucial tip-in at 7:26, helped Lee to preserve its edge. Despite a late push from the Choctaws, capped by Powe's fast-break layup with 33 seconds remaining, Lee's free-throw accuracy in the final seconds secured its 81-74 victory.
