NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Mississippi College came up short in Gulf South Conference play on Monday night, falling 89-77 to Trevecca Nazarene at Trojan Fieldhouse.
Despite a strong showing from senior guard Rashad Bolden, who led all scorers with 31 points on 12-of-31 shooting, the Choctaws (6-10, 2-8 GSC) couldn't overcome the balanced attack of the Trojans (11-4, 6-3 GSC). Bolden also added three rebounds and went a perfect 6-for-6 from the free-throw line.
The Choctaws kept the game close in the first half, trailing just 42-38 at the break. However, Trevecca Nazarene shot 55.17% from the field in the second half and used a strong three-point performance to pull away late.
Key contributions for Mississippi College included Tyshun Briscoe, who scored 14 points and went 10-of-12 from the charity stripe, and Judah Land, who added 12 points and a team-high seven rebounds.
For the Trojans, Jikari Johnson paced the offense with 26 points, shooting 8-of-13 from the field and 7-of-8 from the free-throw line. Caleb Terry added a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds, while Jalen Page chipped in 19 points.
Mississippi College shot 45.3% from the field but struggled from beyond the arc, converting just 4-of-15 attempts. The Trojans capitalized on their opportunities, hitting 12-of-24 from deep and outscoring the Choctaws 18-6 in second-chance points.
The Choctaws will look to rebound on Saturday when they face Delta State in Cleveland, Miss. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m. CST at Walter Sillers Coliseum.
