FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Mississippi College women's soccer opened their 2024 campaign with an impressive 1-0 road win over No. 16 Nova Southeastern on Thursday night. Karah Boydstun's early goal proved to be the difference, as the Lady Choctaws upset the nationally-ranked Sharks.
Boydstun struck in the fourth minute, capitalizing on a well-timed pass from Parker St. Amant to net her first goal of the season. St. Amant's assist allowed Boydstun to slot the ball past the Nova Southeastern goalkeeper, giving Mississippi College (1-0) a lead they would not relinquish.
Despite facing an aggressive Sharks squad, the Lady Choctaws' defense held firm throughout the match. Goalkeeper Jessi Carro made five crucial saves to earn a clean sheet and preserve the upset. Mississippi College was outshot 8-7 in the first half but limited Nova Southeastern (0-1) to just two shots in the second half.
The Lady Choctaws tallied 12 shots, with six on target, while Nova Southeastern finished with 10 shots, five on goal. Both teams were level in corner kicks at three each. MC committed seven fouls compared to NSU's four in what was a tightly contested match.
Boydstun led the Lady Choctaws with three shots on goal, while Eduarda Sofia Silva contributed five shots. Carro's 90-minute effort between the posts ensured the Lady Choctaws' season began with a statement win.
