CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College baseball team dropped its first midweek outing of the season as No. 20 Southern Arkansas University walked away with a 14-1, run-rule victory on Tuesday, Feb. 27 at Frierson Field at Dickins-Scoper Stadium.

It was a tough day for the Choctaws, who fell to 9-6 on the season, as the offense combined for four hits and eight hurlers saw action on the bump.

Jordan Rollins, who made his first start of the season, recorded the lone extra-base knock for the celestial blue-clad Choctaws, as he led off the fifth inning with a double to right field. The Miami, Fla., native later scored in the inning.

Logan Shurden joined Rollins in adding to the hit total as Shurden collected the RBI with a single.

Cooper Gadman (1-1) was saddled with the setback on the bump. He tossed the opening inning and surrendered five runs – two earned – on five hits alongside a pair of strikeouts.

After plating five runs in the first, SAU (12-3) added four runs in the third and another in the fourth to grab a 10-0 advantage and never looked back in the contest. Eight Muleriders gathered hits in the game, including five with multiple-hit performances. Carter Claerhout paced the squad with two hits and six RBI.

Mississippi College returns to action on Tuesday, March 5 as it travels to the Natural State for midweek outing in Monticello, Ark. First pitch against the University of Arkansas at Monticello is scheduled for 2 p.m.
