CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College baseball team clinched the Gulf South Conference series with a 7-4 victory over the University of Alabama in Huntsville on Saturday, Feb. 17. MC improved to 7-3 on the season and 2-1 in league play.

The GSC-opening series win is the first for the program since 2020, when the Blue and Gold swept the University of West Alabama in Clinton.

The Choctaws totaled 12 hits en route to the series-clinching victory.
Beau Kirsch paced the squad at the dish going 3-for-3 with a pair of RBI and two runs scored.
Blaise Breerwood joined Kirsch with a multiple-hit and RBI performance. Breerwood totaled two hits and drove in a pair in the decision.

Korey Cooper added two hits of his own while
Luis Alcantara supplied two RBI.

The two-pitcher punch of
Austin Huggins and
Cooper Gadman helped hold the Chargers (7-4, 1-2 GSC) at bay. Huggins (2-0) recorded six innings as he allowed three runs – two earned – on seven hits. He punched out two and walked a pair in the start.

Gadman (1) recorded his first save of the season as he struck out two and gave up two hits in the final three innings in relief. He allowed one run and walked one in the affair.

For the first time in the series, the Choctaws jumped on the board first as it grabbed a 4-0 lead through the first three innings. Kirsch and
Caleb Reese got the output started in the bottom of the second with RBI singles. Kirsch logged his second RBI of the game in the third as he singled through the right side to plate
Cole Drake. Alcantara added the second run of the third frame as he plated Cooper on a sacrifice bunt.

UAH rallied in the top of the fourth as it scored three runs and clipped the margin to within a run. However, the Choctaws extended the deficit in the bottom of the fifth as Alcantara singled through the right side to score Cooper for the second time in the game. Breerwood delivered the final two runs for the homestanding Choctaws as he doubled to right center to score Alcantara and Kirsch.

The Blue and White compiled a run late in the top of the seventh, but it wasn't enough as Gadman used a double-play ball to exit the threat in the eighth and retired the Chargers in order in the ninth to close the door.

Mississippi College returns to action on Tuesday, Feb. 20 as it hosts William Carey. First pitch is 2 p.m.
