CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College baseball team improved to 8-3 on the season as it topped William Carey, 8-1, on Tuesday, Feb. 20 at Frierson Field at Dickson-Scoper Stadium. The win gave the Choctaws their best start since the 2019 season.
Â
The decision is the fourth straight at Frierson Field in the series and the Blue and Gold's 10th all-time win.
Â
JT Vance and
Beau Kirsch paced the squad at the plate as each collected a pair of hits and supplied the squad with two RBI.
Wesley Sides joined the duo with a multiple-RBI effort as he drove in a pair in the contest.
Â
Carson Turner (1-0) gathered the win on the bump as he was one of seven hurlers to toe the rubber in the contest for MC. Turner allowed one hit alongside a walk and strikeout in his one inning of relief.
Â
Luke Lycette (0-1) was saddled with the setback as he tossed two innings and surrendered a run on one hit. Six pitchers saw action in the contest for the Crusader as well.
Â
The two teams stood deadlocked at a run each over the first five frames, but Kirsch broke the stalemate in the bottom of the sixth with his second RBI of the game as he lifted a fly ball into center field to score
Cole Drake.
Â
MC added three runs in the seventh headlined by a two-run home run from Sides. It is the team-leading, seventh on the campaign from the Southaven, Miss., native. The Blue and Gold used a Crusader throwing error along with back-to-back sacrifice flies to add three insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth.
Â
Mississippi College returns to action on Friday, Feb. 23 as it hits the road for the first time during the 2024 season and visits Auburn University at Montgomery. The series opens Friday, Feb. 23 with the first of the scheduled three-game series. First pitch is at 5 p.m.
