CLINTON, Miss ---- Mississippi College men's soccer had three players named to the 2024 Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2 CCA) All-South Region Teams, with junior forward Lewis Matton earning South Region Player of the Year honors.
Matton, a native of Surrey, England, led the Gulf South Conference (GSC) with 14 goals and 30 points. He also posted three game-winning goals and contributed two assists. Matton's stellar performance helped the Choctaws finish fourth in the GSC standings. He was also named to the First Team All-GSC earlier this season.
Joining Matton on the All-South Region First Team was midfielder Sergio Garrido. A junior from Navarre, Spain, Garrido was instrumental in Mississippi College's midfield, contributing both defensively and offensively. Garrido earned First Team All-GSC honors as well, helping guide the Choctaws to a successful season.
Senior defender Luke Fanstone, a native of Oxford, England, earned a spot on the All-South Region Second Team. Fanstone, who was also named to the First Team All-GSC, played a key role in Mississippi College's defense, helping the team hold opponents to just over one goal per match.
The D2 CCA All-South Region Teams were selected by sports communicators from across the South Region. Mississippi College's trio of honorees underscores the program's continued success in NCAA Division II soccer.
