Pensacola, Fla. — In a tough contest on Saturday evening, the West Florida Argonauts (2-2, 1-1 GSC) claimed a 31-0 victory over Mississippi College (0-5, 0-3 GSC) at Pen Air Field.
The Argonauts opened the scoring in the second quarter when Kyriee Lewis returned an interception 52 yards for a touchdown, giving West Florida a 7-0 lead. A field goal just before halftime extended their advantage to 10-0.
The second half showcased West Florida's efficiency, highlighted by a 58-yard punt return for a touchdown by Virgil Lemons, which pushed the score to 17-0. In the fourth quarter, West Florida added two more touchdowns, with a one-yard run from TJ Lane and a 12-yard run from Jay Sharp, cementing their win.
Mississippi College faced challenges offensively, managing just two first downs compared to West Florida's 17.
Quarterback Jackson Allen led the Choctaws' passing efforts, completing 4 of 8 passes for 28 yards, though he was intercepted once. Eli Anderson and Pete Zamora also saw action but struggled to find a rhythm. Overall, the Choctaws totaled 34 passing yards on 21 attempts with three interceptions.
Defensively, Mississippi College had standout performances from David Brown IV and Keimond Emilien, each recording seven tackles.
West Florida quarterback Tony Bartalo completed 8 of 23 passes for 94 yards without any interceptions, while Sharp's impressive 136 rushing yards led the Argonauts.
Despite the loss, Mississippi College remains focused on improvement as they prepare for their next matchup against West Alabama. The Choctaws will host the game at Robinson-Hale Stadium in Clinton, MS, on Saturday, October 12, at 2:00 PM CT.
