CLINTON, Miss. – Mississippi College had several standout players recognized for their impressive performances during the 2024 season, with freshman Brady Weatherly and Preston Godfrey earning top honors, and senior David Brown IV earning a spot on the First Team All-GSC. Additionally, running back Marcus Williams, linebacker Jason Betz, defensive lineman Brennan Blake, and defensive back David Brown IV earned individual recognition for their contributions on the field.
Brady Weatherly, a linebacker, was named Defensive Freshman of the Year after a standout 2024 freshman season. The 6-foot-2, 225-pounder ranked third among team leaders with 41 total tackles and 4.5 tackles for loss. Appearing in 10 games, Weatherly averaged 2.7 unassisted tackles per game and contributed two pass break-ups, making a significant impact on defense.
Preston Godfrey, a freshman running back, was honored as Co-Offensive Freshman of the Year alongside Corey Scott of West Florida. Godfrey amassed 834 all-purpose yards, including 649 yards of offense. He finished sixth in the GSC with 526 rushing yards, seventh in yards per game (52.6), and scored twice on the ground. Godfrey also had 123 passing yards and a touchdown on 3-of-10 passing, while also contributing 185 yards on nine kickoff returns.
Marcus Williams, a senior running back, earned Second Team All-GSC honors. Williams was one of the most productive running backs in the conference, finishing the season with 788 rushing yards on 177 carries, averaging 4.5 yards per carry. He scored seven touchdowns and had a long run of 50 yards, averaging 78.8 yards per game.
David Brown IV, a senior defensive back, was named to the First Team All-GSC following a strong season in the secondary. Brown totaled 46 tackles in 10 games, with 37 solo stops and 9 assists. He also recorded 7.5 tackles for loss, totaling 20 yards, and had two interceptions.
Jason Betz, a linebacker, was another key defensive player for Mississippi College, earning a spot on the Second Team All-GSC. Betz played in all 10 games and totaled 57 tackles, including 49 solo stops. He also registered 4.5 tackles for loss (17 yards), three sacks (15 yards), and an interception.
Rounding out the honors for Mississippi College was defensive lineman Brennan Blake, who recorded 38 total tackles, including 13 for loss, and had 3.5 sacks. Blake was named to the Second Team All-GSC following his 2024 campaign.
Other notable GSC award winners include Valdosta State's Sammy Edwards, who was named Offensive Player of the Year, and the co-defensive players of the year, Larry Elder of Valdosta State and Traevon Mitchell of West Florida.
