CLEVELAND, Tenn. — The Mississippi College women's soccer team fell to Lee University 3-1 in a Gulf South Conference match on Sunday. The defeat drops the Lady Choctaws to 7-4-3 overall and 3-4-3 in conference play.
Mississippi College struck first when Lillie Young scored off a rebound in the sixth minute, giving the Lady Choctaws an early lead. Young's unassisted goal marked her second of the season.
However, the lead was short-lived. Just three minutes later, Grace Berry equalized for the Lady Flames with a well-placed shot to the far corner after a 1v1 with goalkeeper Jessi Carro. Berry's goal set the tone for the remainder of the match.
In the second half, the Lady Flames gained momentum. Berry scored again in the 47th minute, assisted by Jordan Blair, putting Lee ahead 2-1. The Lady Choctaws struggled to respond, managing only three shots in the second half.
Mallory Hayden sealed the victory for Lee with a goal in the 65th minute, bringing the final score to 3-1. The Lady Flames improved to 6-3-4 overall and 6-1-2 in the GSC.
Mississippi College managed eight total shots, with five on goal. Goalkeeper Jessi Carro recorded five saves but faced a total of 21 shots from Lee. In contrast, Abby Whitcomb for Lee made four saves on eight shots.
Next up for the Lady Choctaws is a matchup against Valdosta State on Friday, November 3, at 1 p.m. at Robert P. Longabaugh Field in Clinton, Mississippi.
