CLINTON, Miss. — Mississippi College secured their second consecutive victory on Tuesday, marking their fourth consecutive home win of the season by defeating Lee 76-70 in a comeback fashion at the A.E. Wood Coliseum.
Lee controlled the scoreboard in the first half, establishing a 12-point lead of 48-36 as they headed into the break in Clinton. However, with just 9:43 remaining in the game and trailing 67-54, Mississippi College orchestrated a remarkable comeback, initiating a game-changing 22-3 run over the final 9 minutes.
Trailing 70-65, Rashad Bolden sank a jumper with 4:21 left, reducing the Flames' lead to 70-67. Two minutes later, at the 2:36 mark, Jakemin Abney brought MC within one point, 70-69, against Lee.
Bolden gave MC a one-point advantage, making it 71-70 with 1:52 on the clock on a jumper, marking the Choctaws' first lead of the contest. In the final minute, Abney and Bolden added two and three free throws, respectively, to secure a 76-70 victory. The Choctaws closed out the contest, maintaining a 6-point lead, and completing the 22-3 run to defeat Lee.
Bolden achieved a career-high for the night, scoring 35 points on 11-of-20 shooting in 40 minutes of action. He also went 11-of-14 from the free-throw line, with five rebounds and three assists.
Abney tallied 23 points, going 6-of-9 from the field in 31 minutes on the court. Abney finished 10-of-11 from the free-throw line, with two steals. Dekyre Fuller contributed seven points to the win.
MC finished 25-of-49 from the field as a unit, achieving a 51.0% mark in field goals made. The Navy and Gold were efficient from the free-throw line, going 22-of-26 (84.6%), with 34 points off the bench and 24 points in the paint.
With the win, MC improved to 7-7 overall on the season and 6-4 in GSC play. They will return to the court on Monday, January 8, where they will face Delta State in a road action in Cleveland, Miss., beginning at 7:30 p.m.
