CLINTON, Miss. --- In a hard-fought matchup on Saturday afternoon in the A.E. Coliseum, Mississippi College (7-8, 6-5 GSC) ultimately fell with a score of 77-71 to the top ranked team in the conference and #19 West Georgia (14-2, 10-2 GSC).
In the first half, UWG came out swinging, jumping to an 11-0 start within the first three minutes. West Georgia led 14-1 before the Choctaws went on an 8-0 run, trimming the Wolves' lead to 14-9 with 14:23 left until halftime.
UWG increased their advantage to 30-16 with 8:18 left, but the Choctaws closed the half on a 16-5 run, trailing 35-32. In the second half, Mississippi College, led by
Rashad Bolden's back-to-back three-pointers, claimed a three-point lead of 38-35 in the first minute.
Over the next five minutes, both teams traded leads, with MC taking a 48-43 lead with 14:31 left. Georgia gained momentum, going on a run to lead 63-50 with 10:02 remaining. In the final minutes, West Georgia held onto a three-point lead, but Mississippi College cut it to a one-possession game with a three-point basket by
Cam Brown, making it a 73-70 Wolves lead with 24 seconds left. Georgia closed out the contest, securing a 77-71 victory.
Mississippi College's hard-fought contest fell short against the top-ranked Gulf South Conference team, leaving them with an overall record of 7-8 and 6-5 in GSC play.
Rashad Bolden led with 28 points, shooting 8-of-23, including four made three-pointers and eight free throws in 40 minutes of action.
Cam Brown contributed 21 points, going 8-of-16 with five three-pointers in 35 minutes.
Jakemin Abney had eight points in 30 minutes, while
Andrew Seager had seven points and seven rebounds with one blocked shot. The Choctaws scored 23 points off of turnovers, 18 points in the paint, and 32 points off of the bench. Mississippi College returns to action on the road on Thursday, January 18, tipping off against Christian Brothers in Memphis, Tenn.
