TIGERVILLE, S.C. --- The Mississippi College baseball team dropped its Saturday twinbill at No. 1 North Greenville University to conclude its three-game series. The Choctaw (1-6) were nipped in both outings as the Crusaders walked it off in the opening game of the day 12-11 and then edged 3-1 in the finale.

The Blue and Gold used the long ball to plate 12 of its 13 runs on the day. MC totaled four home runs, including three in the opener as
Bridley Thomas,
Alex McWhorter and
Caleb Reese each hit multiple-run homers. Reese added a second dinger on the day as he accounted for the only MC run of the finale as it came in the sixth.

Thomas got the scoring started on the day with a two-run home run in the second inning, but the Red and Black responded with two runs of its own. McWhorter responded with a three-run home run in the top of the third to lift the Choctaw to a 5-2 advantage. The Crusaders answered again with a three spot to force another deadlock.

Reese placed the Choctaw up for the third time with a grand slam in the fourth frame. NGU answered with a solo home run - its second of the game – but trailed 9-6 heading into the fifth. The two teams exchanged a run each in the sixth and MC scored its final run in the seventh as Thomas scored on a fielder's choice to give the team an 11-7 lead heading into the final frame of the game.

The Crusaders loaded the bases in the ninth and used a walk and hit by pitch to narrow the gap, 11-9, with two outs. Jon Michael Faile delivered the final blow with a bases-clearing, double down the right field line.

McWhorter (0-1) took the loss on the bump as he allowed three runs on one hit and two walks. He notched one strikeout in the relief effort.

In the second outing, the Crusaders scored first for the first time in the series with an RBI-single up the middle in the fourth inning off the bat of Jax Cash. The Red and Black added two more runs in the fifth as Jalen Vasquez scored on a wild pitch and David Lewis recorded an RBI-single to left field for the final run.

Cooper Gadman (0-2) earned the decision in the setback as he allowed three runs – one earned – on 10 hits in the complete game effort. He struck out four and walked three in the effort.

Mississippi College returns to action on Tuesday, Feb. 14 as it hosts Henderson State University. First pitch is at 2 p.m.
