CLINTON, Miss. -- As the fall season gathers pace, excitement fills the air at Mississippi College. The school's esteemed men's and women's Cross Country teams are geared up to race at the famed Choctaw Trails, the venue for this year's Watson College Cross County Classic. A tradition that started in 2010, this event is named in honor of Robert Watson, and this year promises to be another memorable competition.
With 450 athletes set to lace up their running shoes, the 2023 edition of the Watson meet will go down as one of the largest in its history. However, all eyes will be on the Choctaws, the hosts, who are set to have a strong showing and possibly sweep the event. The confidence brims from their last outing on this very terrain, The Opener, which took place earlier this season in September. The men showcased their brilliance by achieving a perfect score of 15 points, while the women pulled off a nail-biting victory against Mississippi State University, clinching the title by a thin margin of just one point.
The action kicks off at 7:30 AM Central Time with the Men's 8K, setting the stage for the women's 6K run which follows at 8:15 AM. To ensure fans, both on-site and off, remain updated with live results, course maps, and other essential meet information, resources are made available through the provided links.
We invite the community, alumni, and all cross country fans to join us at Choctaw Trails and support the Choctaws on race day!
