CLINTON, Miss. — Following a historic weekend at the Gulf South Conference Championships, the Mississippi College cross country teams continue to make waves in the latest regional and national rankings.
The Choctaw women, fresh off capturing the program's first-ever GSC championship, now sit No. 2 in the South Region and have earned a spot in the USTFCCCA National Rankings at No. 24. The men's team, which finished third at the conference meet, moved up to No. 5 in the South Region.
The women's squad put together a dominant team effort at the GSC Championships, placing all five scorers in the top 14 to total 43 points and secure the conference crown. Senior Lauren Wallace led the way with a fourth-place finish (20:45.59), followed closely by Bre Bell in fifth (21:05.66) and Taylor Benoit in seventh (21:20.65). Audrey Mayatte (13th, 21:42.07) and Kinley Harris (14th, 21:43.70) rounded out the scoring lineup for MC.
Their performance not only brought home the program's first GSC title but also propelled the Choctaws to second in the region and a spot among the nation's best programs.
The Choctaw men delivered a strong showing of their own, placing third behind Lee and Alabama Huntsville. Cooper Parmer led MC with a 14th-place finish (24:30.3), followed by Christian Balcer (15th, 24:34.34), Baxter Friedman (17th, 24:38.46), Sidney Stegall (22nd, 24:58.77), and Matthew Singletary (23rd, 25:00.46).
That balanced effort has solidified Mississippi College's position at No. 5 in the South Region, marking another step forward for the program.
Both teams will look to build on their success as they prepare for the upcoming NCAA South Region Championships, aiming to extend their seasons and compete on the national stage.
