HATTIESBURG, Miss. --- The Mississippi College men and women's outdoor track and field teams wrapped up the University of Southern Mississippi Invitational with three meet records during the two-day event.

Cole Benoit set the men's 800 meters mark as he posted a time of 1:51.94. The time earned Benoit first-place event. The mark was previously held by Jackson State University's Alan Jackson. He set the mark on April 3, 2021 with a time of 1:53.06.

Tytavia Hardy helped rest the women's 100 hurdles mark with a time of 13.97. The previous mark was set on April 27, 2019 by the University of Louisiana at Monroe's Kourtni Russell with a time of 11.82. The Pensacola, Fla., native finished second in the event.

The women's 4x400 relay team added to the record-breaking performances with a time of 3:50.34. The previous record was set by Southern Miss on April 3, 2021 with a mark of 3:50.45. The foursome of
Kelechi Christian,
Ezra McCaw,
Tytavia Hardy and
Ereyonna Gore took second in the event.

Along with Benoit's event victory, the Choctaws picked up three other event wins for four total during the two days.

Hunter Kurz took the top spot in the men's 1,500 meters as he clocked a time of 3:56.01. MC placed two runners in the top three in the event as
Brock Kelly finished second with a time of 3:57.02.
Braedon Methvin took fourth with a time of 4:02.67. Kurz and Kelly also finished in the top five in the men's 800. Kurz recorded a time of 1:54.02 in second place while Kelly had a 1:56.21 in fifth.

Austin Flynn added an event win on the men's side as he claimed first in the men's steeplechase. Flynn clocked a 10:23.19. The men's 4x400 relay team of
Gabe Hodson,
Jake Russell,
Connor Stewart and
Will Grames brought home gold with a time of 3:13.88.

Shemar Patten finished fourth in the men's 110 hurdles as he clocked a 14.79.
Wesley Gibbs also finished fourth as posted a time of 48.72 in the men's 400 meters.
Al Ferrill posted the only top-five finish in field events as he posted a distance of 15.55 meters in the men's shot put as he finished fourth.
Caleb Hall finished fifth in the men's 5,000 meters with a time of 15:54.77.

Kathy Hammond finished second in the women's 800 meters. Hammond recorded a time of 2:20.67. She added a fourth-place finish in the women's 1,500 meters with a time of 4:44.42.
Jazmin Hernandez took second in the event with a time of 4:36.15 while
Madeline Campbell was fifth with a 4:48.46.

Other top finishes included,
Shemar Patten with a seventh-place finish in the men's 100 meters with a time of 10.80. Russell finished 10th in the men's 400 meters with a time of 49.25.
Chris Webber and
Preston Speed each finish in the top 10 in the men's 1,500. Webber took eighth with a time of 4:06.54 while Speed clocked a 4:09.02.
Elijah Araya was sixth in the men's 5K with a time of 16:00.97.

Ferrill finished sixth in the men's discus with a distance of 45.88 meters. He also added a seventh-place finish in the men's hammer with a throw of 49.56 meters.
Dylan Hale finished seventh in the men's javelin with a toss of 48.29 meters.

Christian finished seventh in the women's 400 meters with a time of 57.46. Langley finished sixth in the women's 800 with a time of 2:23.83 while
Caroline Dooling was 10th with a 2:29.80.
Emily Berry helped the Choctaws in the women's 1,500 with an eighth-place finish with a time of 4:50.83.
Shelby Dean finished eighth in the women's 5K with a time of 20:05.43 while
Adrienne Goolsby was 10th with a 20:31.98.

Kiara Vance finished 10th in the women's discus with a toss of 39.28 meters. She also finished 10th in the women's hammer with a throw of 39.51 meters.
Adrianna Burage finished 10th in the women's high jump with a distance of 1.53 meters.
Victoria Myles finished 10th in the women's javelin with a throw of 30.85 meters.

Mississippi College returns to action on Wednesday, April 6 at the Hinds Community College Relays. Following the meet on the Raymond, Miss., campus, The Choctaws travel to Cleveland, Tenn., for the Lee University Invitational over the weekend.
