CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College Choctaws took on Alabama Huntsville Thursday night, slipping to the Chargers by a final of 68-57 in Gulf South Conference play.
MC jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead in the opening minutes of the contest, with a dunk by
Galen Smith and a three-pointer by
Judah Jordan.Â
UAH tied the game up at 5-5 yet yet a 6-2 run over the four minutes of play gave MC an 11-7 advantage with 13:30 on the clock in the first half.Â
Both teams battled several lead changes in the remaining minutes of the first half, with the Choctaws holding a one-point lead, 28-27, with 4:16 left until halftime.Â
Tied at 32-32 with over a minute left, UAH knocked down a three-pointer to take a 35-32 lead. The Chargers went into the break leading with the score remaining at 35-32.
UAH opened up the second half with control of the contest, pushing their three-point lead out to a 12-point advantage with 52-40, with 12:04 remaining in the game.Â
MC trimmed away at the Chargers lead, with
Galen Smith earning four straight points in the final minutes of competition to cut the lead to nine-points at 66-57, with just over two minutes remaining.Â
UAH went on to win by a final score of 68-57 over the Choctaws on Thursday, as MC fell to 7-18 overall and 5-14 in GSC play.
MC went 21-of-43 from the field and 8-of-23 from three-point territory on the night as they were led by
Galen Smith with a double-double (17 points, 11 rebounds). Smith also had a team best three blocked shots and two steals.Â
Judah Jordan and
Miles Miller each had three 3-pointers, with Jordan finishing with 13 points and five rebounds.
Antonio Cowart Jr. had 10 points on 5-of-7 shooting on the night.
MC returns to action on Saturday at 4 p.m. on the road at West Alabama to close out the 2022 season in Livingston, Ala.
