CLINTON, Miss. -- The Mississippi College Choctaws knocked off Montevallo on Thursday night, winning in thrilling fashion with a last second three-pointer by freshman
Taylon Smith, that lifted MC to a 63-61 comeback win in GSC play.
In the first half of play, both teams remained in a tight score with MC holding a slight advantage, 17-16, with 8:19 remaining in the first half of play. Montevallo began to heat up offensively over the remaining eight minutes of the half, going on a 10-3 run in the final minutes to take a 27-19 lead into halftime.

Montevallo pushed their lead to 13 points with 12 minutes left in the game, leading 46-33. However, great offense and several key turnovers helped aid a 9-0 run by MC, bringing the Choctaws back within a four-point deficit, 46-42, with 10:21 on the clock.
The Falcons extended their lead back out to eight points with 7:47 left in regulation until a
Judah Jordan three-pointer and a
Miles Miller layup, brought MC back within a 52-49 score.
With 3:15 on the clock,
Devin Carter knocked down the tying free throw before giving MC a three point lead, 57-54, with a made three-pointer with 2:21 left in regulation.
Three lead changes occurred over final minutes of action, with Montevallo leading 61-60 with 20 seconds remaining. Down by one,

Smith had six total points on the night, going a perfect 2-for-2 from three-point territory, including the game-winning shot at the end of the contest.
Galen Smith recorded a double-double, going 7-of-12 from the field with 17-points and 10 rebounds. Smith also had four assists and two blocked shots.Â
Antonio Cowart Jr. had 10 points on the night with eight rebounds and two steals.
Miles Miller totaled six points and a team best nine assists in the win. Miller also had three steals, another Choctaw best.
As a team, MC shot 24-of-58 from the field while going 6-of-14 from three-point range. There were 10 lead changes in the contest as MC led for just 3:07 on the night, coming back from a 13-point deficit at the 12:23 mark in the second half.
MC has 30 points in the paint compared to 22 for Montevallo. MC also produced 22 points off of the bench in the win. MC improved to 6-16 overall and 4-12 in GSC play as they now return to action on Saturday afternoon for senior day. The Choctaws take on Auburn-Montgomery at home beginning at 4 p.m. at A.E. Wood Coliseum.
