Becker Becomes MC's First Individual Cross Country Champion at GSC Championship

MONTEVALLO, Ala. --- Jan Lukas Becker became Mississippi College's first Gulf South Conference Individual Champion as the 11th-ranked Choctaw finished second at the conference championships on Saturday, Nov. 5.
 
Becker posted a time of 23:50.7 to sit as the top finisher in the 8K race. The mark – an 8K best at MC - earned him First Team All-GSC accolades – one of three harriers in the Navy and Gold to accomplish the feat - and conference runner of the year.
 
Teammates Gabe Poulin and Hunter Kurz joined Becker on the first team all-conference. Poulin finished fourth in the race with a time of 24:01.10 while Kurz finished fifth with a 24:02.20.
 
Christian Balcer, Brock Kelly and Braedon Methvin also claimed all-conference laurels during the race as the trio finished among the second team all-conference runners. Balcer posted a time of 24:41.30 to claim 15th. Kelly finished two spots back with a time of 24:49.20. Methvine turned in a 24:50.70 to finish 18th.
 
Cole Benoit rounded out the top seven, scoring runners for the Choctaw as he recorded a time of 25:25.10 in 27th. Adam Gomez (25:36.20), Preston Speed (25:52.30) and Hollis Johnson (25:55.10) each finished in the top 40 in the race
 
Lee University took the team crown with the University of Alabama in Huntsville in third. The Chargers' Sam Wilhelm finished second among the individuals while Lee's Aaron Himes took bronze in the race.
 
Mississippi College turns its attention to the NCAA Division II South Regional in Lakeland, Fla., on Saturday, Nov. 19.
