MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- The Choctaws fought hard in Monday night's contest with Auburn-Montgomery, falling by a final score of 68-60 in GSC play.
AUM got off to a 10-2 start right out the gate before stretching their lead to 19-12 with 7:09 left in the first half.Â
Over the next five minutes, MC went on a 10-3 run to tie the contest up at 22-22 with an Antonio Cowart Jr. layup. AUM closed out the first half on top 26-24.
Both teams went back and forth in the second half, with the score knotted up at 40-40 with 10 minutes left to go in the game. AUM outscored MC 20-9 over the next seven minutes to take an 11-point advantage with 3:42 on the clock, 60-49.Â
The Choctaws went on a run of their own, pulling within three points, 63-60, after an 11-3 run with just over a minute left in regulation.Â
AUM scored the final five points of the contest, taking the win by a final score of 68-60 in Gulf South Conference play.
MC had three scorers with 10+ points with
Galen Smith leading the way with 12 points. Smith also had eight rebounds, six assists, and two blocked shots.
Antonio Cowart Jr. and
Winford Ross had 10 points apiece, with Cowart leading the team with three blocks on the night.Â
Miles Miller has eight points and a team high seven assists versus the Warhawks, as well as five rebounds.
As a team, MC was 23-of-51 (45.1 percent) including outscoring AUM 36-20 in points scored in the paint.Â
The Choctaws fell to 4-14 overall on the season and 2-10 in GSC play. MC returns to action on Saturday versus Delta State. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m. at A.E. Wood Coliseum in Clinton, Miss.Â
