West Georgia Takes Down Choctaws Saturday Afternoon

CARROLLTON, Ga. -- The Mississippi College Choctaws fell to West Georgia Saturday afternoon by a final score of 67-51 in GSC play.

West Georgia jumped out to a quick 10-point lead in the first nine minutes of action, holding an 18-8 lead with 11:27 to go in the first half. 

The Choctaws closed the gap to 2-points with a 12-4 run over the next six minutes of play with a Winford Ross layup to make the score 22-20, with UWG holding the slight advantage.

The Wolves handles the final five minutes of the first half, finishing the half on a 15-6 run to take a 37-26 lead into the locker room. 

UWG held the Choctaws scoreless through the first seven minutes of the second half, as UWG jumped out to a 25-point lead on a 14-0 run right out of the break to go up 51-26 with 13:28 left in regulation.

MC managed to gain some momentum back offensively over the final 13 minutes, yet it was not enough to overcome the Wolves, as MC went on to fall to UWG by a final of 67-51.

Galen Smith recorded a double-double, finishing with 14-points and 11 rebounds on 6-of-7 shooting.

Antonio Cowart Jr. and Winford Ross had stellar performances on the afternoon, with each tallying a team best 16-points and six rebounds. Cowart led the Choctaws with three steals and had two assists. 

As a team, MC shot 21-of-50 from the floor 36 points in the paint. The Choctaws out rebounded the Wolves 35-29. 

MC falls to 4-13 overall and 2-9 in GSC play with the loss as they look to rebound and get back into the winning column on Monday versus Auburn Montgomery. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. in Montgomery, Ala.
