CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College baseball team dropped a 12-1 decision on Monday, Feb. 8 at No. 19 Valdosta State University. MC moved to 0-3 on the season while the Blazers improved to 3-0.

The Choctaw bats had a difficult time at the dish as the team logged five hits in the game.

David Dunn took the loss on the mound as he allowed four runs – all earned – on five hits with a walk and strikeout.

Mississippi College returns to action on Friday, Feb. 12 as it travels to Livingston, Ala., for a three-game series with the University of West Alabama.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Blazers scored early and often in the game as they posted a run in all, but one inning.
- VSU jumped out with two runs in the first frame, but the Choctaws cut the lead in half in the top second as
Caleb Reese scored on a passed ball. However, the Navy and Gold tacked no more in the frame. The Red and Black responded with three in the bottom of the second to expand its lead to 5-1.
- Valdosta added three more in the third and again in the fifth before closing out its scoring in the sixth.

ON THE MOUND
- Five different Choctaws took the hill in the game as
Luke Files,
Lance Wade,
Sam Ciaccio, and
Jared Barnes each saw action in relief. Wade put together the longest outing of the day with 2.1 innings of action as he struck out three with four runs allowed on six hits.
- Zach Henderson picked up the win on the mound for the Blazers with 1.2 innings in relief. He struck out one and surrendered one walk. Zach Blankenship struck out six and allowed one run on four hits in the start for the Red and Black.
