LIVINGSTON, Ala. --- The Mississippi College baseball team strung together a late rally, but it fell short as the Choctaws (0-4) suffered a 12-8 setback at the University of West Alabama. The Tigers improved to 1-3 on the season.
 
Mississippi College outscored the Tigers 7-1 after the third inning, however, the Red and White scored 11 of its 12 runs in its first three trips to the plate.
 
Ken Scott led the Navy and Gold at the dish as he went 4-for-5 with four RBI and two runs scored. The Meridian, Miss., native notched three, extra-base hits during the contest, including a pair of doubles and a home run.
 
Lane Willis joined Scott with multiple hits on the day as Willis went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
 
Dylan Marsh (0-2) took the loss on the mound. He allowed 10 runs – six earned – on seven hits as he walked five and struck out three.
 
Austin Kitterman (1-0) took the win on the mound for West Alabama. He struck out one and didn't allow a Choctaw run or hit in two innings of relief.
 
Mississippi College and West Alabama conclude the weekend series on Sunday, Feb. 14 with a doubleheader. First pitch is slated for Noon at Tartt Field.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
- West Alabama scored a pair of runs in its first trip to the plate, but the Choctaws cut the narrow lead in half in the top of the second as Scott doubled down the left field line to score 
Alex Hay. However, the Red and White answered with four runs in the bottom of the second and tacked on five more in the third.
- Trailing 11-1 through three innings, the Choctaws added two runs in the top of the fourth as they capitalized on some UWA miscues. Scott scored on a throwing error for the first run of the inning as 
Jaron Harris crossed the dish on a passed ball.
- The Tigers added their final run in the bottom half of the fourth on a solo home run by Antonio Jenkins.
- Scott added two more RBI in the fifth with a single to left that scored 
Caleb Reese and 
George Farid.
- Scott picked up his fourth RBI in the seventh with his first home run of the season and jumped started a three-run, inning for the Choctaws. 
Josh Smith scored Harris on a single to center and Willis added a RBI with a sacrifice fly to left field that scored 
Dakota Kennedy.
 
ON THE MOUND
- Mississippi College sent four hurlers to mound on the day as 
Luke Files, 
Brewer Hendrix and 
Daniel Shelton each saw action in relief. The trio combined to allow just two runs through 5.2 innings of work and gave up seven hits.
- Shelton in his MC debut gave up just one hit in three innings of action and fanned one.
 
KEY NOTES/STATS
- Scott's four-hit performance was the first of the season by any Choctaw and the third multi-hit effort this season on the team.
- Scott's home run was his first since March 1, 2020 against Union.
- 
Dylan Duplechain was hit three times during the contest. The Mamou, La., native had been hit-by-pitch just eight times during his career in Clinton.
- West Alabama holds a 35-16 advantage in the series and snapped a six-game, losing streak against Mississippi College.
- MC skipper 
Jeremy Haworth is 8-9 against West Alabama in his 10-year career.
