CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's cross country matched its best finish at the Gulf South Conference Championship as MC finished second among the field of 13 teams on Saturday, Oct. 23 at Choctaw Trails.
 
A quartet of Choctaws earned All-Gulf South Conference honors headlined by Jazmin Hernandez and Josie Whipp claiming first team laurels. Hernandez finished fourth overall as she posted a time of 17:35.58. Whipp added a time of 18:02.28 as she finished eighth in the 5K race.
 
Madeline Campbell claimed second team honors as she clocked a time of 18:12.44 and turned in a 12th-place finish. Emily Berry rounded out the all-conference accolades with a time of 18:58.92 and finishing in the top 20.
 
Norma Gutierrez finished just outside of all-conference recognition in her first collegiate championship race. The freshman turned in a time of 19:06.01 and in 22nd. Kathy Hammond finished 33rd while Emma Langley was 38th respectively. Hammond recorded a time of 19:31.24 while Langley notched a 19:41.85.
 
Lee University returned as the GSC Champion led by Celine Ritter, who was the gold medalist in the event. Ritter posted a time of 16:51.07 while teammate Toni Moore brought home silver with a time of 17:14.96. Christian Brothers University's Johanna Wistokat recorded a time of 17:27.45.
 
The University of Alabama in Huntsville finished third in the team standings.
 
Mississippi College now focuses on the NCAA South Regional set for Saturday, Nov. 6 at Saint Leo, Fla.
