KENOSHA, Wis. — Mississippi College seniors Taylor Benoit and Lauren Wallace closed out their collegiate careers on the national stage Saturday, competing as individuals at the NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships at the Wayne E. Dannehl National Cross Country Course.
Racing against a field of 262 of the nation's top Division II runners, the duo represented the Choctaws after qualifying individually out of the South Region.
Benoit finished in 21:58.0 on the 6K course, placing 110th overall. Wallace turned in a strong performance of her own, crossing in 21:43.8 to place 90th.
Both seniors navigated the challenging course and cold Wisconsin conditions while racing unattached from team scoring. Wallace posted mile splits that averaged 4:32.7, while Benoit averaged 4:09.6.
Saturday's championship appearance capped standout careers for both Choctaw seniors, who helped lead Mississippi College to multiple NCAA South Region berths and served as foundational pieces of the program's rise on the national stage.
