CLINTON, Miss. --- The No. 18 Mississippi College baseball team dropped the series finale to Quincy (Ill.) University, 15-9, on Saturday, Feb. 16, in four-plus-hour marathon. The Hawks used a pair of big innings to rally to topple the Choctaws.

Grant Barber led the Choctaws at the plate with a pair of hits and two RBI.
Payton Yawn joined Barber with two hits while
Blaine Crim and
Billy Cameron joined the junior second baseman with two RBI each.
Brandon Kennedy (0-1) took the loss as eight MC hurlers took the mound.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Mississippi College jumped on the board early scoring eight of its runs in the first three innings.
- The Choctaws scored the first run of the game in their first at-bat on a Cameron RBI single. The Navy and Gold added three more in the second on a sacrifice fly and back-to-back, bases loaded walks to take a 4-1 lead through two frames.
- After Quincy added its second run in the top of the third, the Navy and Gold responded with four runs in the bottom half of the inning headlined by Barber's two-run, single.
- The Hawks pulled within five runs with a Chandler Purcell RBI-single in the fourth and exploded with seven runs in the sixth to take their first lead of the game, 10-8, in the sixth. Logan Logsdon headlined the inning for the Brown and Gold with a grand slam.
- The Choctaws got a run back in the bottom of the inning on a Ty Alderman RBI single, but QU answered with five runs in the seventh as Nolan Snyder drove in three runs with a triple to right center following back-to-back, bases loaded walks.

ON THE MOUND
- Kennedy pitched a third of an inning and allowed three runs on one hit with a walk and hit batter.
- Garrett Hollinghead tossed five frames in the start allowing three runs – two earned - on six hits with four walks and four strikeouts.
- Only one other Choctaw pitcher threw more than one inning, Dustan Dille. Dille tossed 1.1 innings in relief and allowed no runs on two hits with three strikeouts and a walk.
- Stephen Atkins and Christian Bellew each tossed one frame. Austin Chastang, Sam Ciacco and Tim Holloway all saw action.

- The two teams combined to use 13 pitchers in the game and 13 runners left on base.
- Quincy posted a clip of .417 with two outs and drove in five, two-out RBI in the game.
- Mississippi College was 5-for-9 (.556) with its leadoff hitters.
- It's the first time the Choctaws have dropped a series since Apr. 29, 2018 when they fell 2-0 at Delta State.
