CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's basketball team returns to the hardwood on Thursday, Jan. 10 as it hosts Valdosta State University in the first of a pair of Gulf South Conference contests. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.

GAME NOTESÂ
- Mississippi College looks to rebound from a 73-56 setback at the University of West Georgia on Saturday, Jan. 5. A pair of Lady Choctaws posted double figures in the contest led by senior Jamilah Sanders' 13 points. Sophomore Moriah Hurst added a season-high 11 points.
- Freshman Shanell Kitchens and junior Kaitlyn Thompson each recorded season-bests at West Georgia. Thompson tied for tops on the team with eight rebounds as she surpassed her previous high of four against Lane College on Nov. 13 earlier in the season. Kitchens equaled a season-best with two rebounds.
- Two Lady Choctaws lead the team in scoring this season. Sophomore Lauran Sheriff paces the squad with 10.8 points per game while junior Zariah Matthews averages 10.4 points. Junior Coco Hobson rests just outside the double-digit scorers on the team with 9.7 points per contest. The Brandon, Miss., native, Hobson, leads the squad in rebounds averaging 6.9.
- Mississippi College and Valdosta State meet for the 29th time while VSU leads the series 18-10. The Lady Blazers claimed the last two meetings in the series with MC's last victory coming on Jan. 21, 2017 at VSU, 65-63. The Lady Choctaws' last win in Clinton came on Jan. 21, 1995, 92-83.
- MC looks to win its fourth game at A.E. Coliseum this season and pick up its second straight at home. The Lady Choctaws knocked off GSC foe Christian Brothers on Dec. 17 – their last game contest.
- VSU enters the Thursday evening contest with a 9-5 record and 3-3 in the GSC after falling 67-54 against the University of West Alabama on Jan. 5. The loss to UWA ended a three-game win streak for the Red and Black.
- Three Lady Blazers average double figures scoring led by Sonya Franklin's 10.6 points. Kayla Bonilla sits second on the team in scoring with 10.5 points followed by Crystal Townsend with 10.2. Townsend also leads VSU in rebounds with 7.7 per contest.
- Valdosta State marks the second opponent from the State of Georgia for the Lady Choctaws this season.
- Mississippi College meets West Florida for the 11th time in the series with the Argos holding a 6-4 advantage. MC snapped a six-game, losing skid to UWF last season with a 59-55 win on Feb. 14, 2018 in Clinton.
- West Florida enters the weekend action with a 10-3 record and 4-2 in the conference after knocking off the University of Montevallo on Jan. 5 in Pensacola, Fla. UWF has won five of its last six games this season with the lone setback coming at Valdosta State on Jan. 3.
- Toni Brewer leads the attack for West Florida this season. The reining GSC Player of the Week stands as the only player in the GSC averaging a double-double this season with 17.2 points and 11.9 rebounds per game. Halee Nieman leads UWF with 18.5 points per contest while Belle Bistrow ranks third with 12.5 points.
Mississippi College is a private Christian university located in Clinton, Mississippi with an enrollment of over 5,000 students. MC recently finished their transition process back to NCAA Division II and the Gulf South Conference and will be competing for conference and national championships in the 2018-19 academic year.
