Women's Hoops Season Concludes at Delta State

CLEVELAND, Miss. --- Mississippi College women's basketball closed out the 2025-26 season with a 56-45 loss at Delta State on Friday, Feb. 27. MC closes the season with a 9-18 record and 8-14 in Gulf South Conference action.

Valencia McFall led the team with 22 points, converting six of 11 from beyond the arc. It marked her fourth contest this season with 20-plus points. Vivian Sketoe added eight points, including two 3-pointers, while collecting one steal.

MC leaned on efficient 3-point shooting in the opening quarter, knocking down four of seven from beyond the arc to stay within striking distance. Both teams were active defensively, but Delta State's perfect 6-for-6 effort at the free-throw line helped the Lady Statesmen claim a slim 22-20 lead after one.

Delta State created separation in the second quarter by capitalizing on MC's mistakes. The Choctaws committed seven turnovers, while DSU limited the Blue and Gold to just two field goals on 11 attempts, outscoring them 14-5 in the second period and take a 36-25 halftime advantage.

MC responded in the third with defensive pressure and outscored the Lady Statesmen by two points. The Choctaws forced five turnovers while adding four second-chance points off offensive rebounds to cut the deficit to 47-38 entering the fourth.

In the final quarter, however, continued turnover issues hindered MC's comeback bid. Despite hitting two 3-pointers, the Choctaws committed five turnovers, and Delta State sealed the 11-point win by converting five of six free throws down the stretch.

Jariyah Williamson led DSU with 21 points, connecting on 5 of 10 from beyond the arc and shooting a perfect 4 of 4 from the free-throw line. Dakiya Toney contributed with eight rebounds, including three on the offensive end, while adding eight points.

The outcomes concludes the collegiate careers of Karly Ivy, Keller Bigham, Mariam Olawoyin, Valencia McFall and Marian Jenkins.
