Women's Hoops Preview: No. 22 Lee (Tenn.), UAH

CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's basketball team looks to rebound from a loss at nationally ranked Union (Tenn.) University on Saturday, as MC returns home to A.E. Wood Coliseum on Thursday, Jan. 24 against Lee (Tenn.) University. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
 
The contest against the Lady Flames is the first of two in the Gulf South Conference this week for the Lady Choctaws. The Navy and Gold closes out the weekend on Saturday, Jan. 26 against the University of Alabama at Huntsville. Tip-off versus the Lady Chargers is set for 2 p.m.

MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE NOTES / PREVIEW
•   With the setback on Saturday, the Lady Choctaws dropped its first contest to a team from the State of Tennessee this season. MC was 4-0 entering the contest against the Lady Bulldogs. Lee marks the sixth contest against a team from the Volunteer State.
•   With 14 points and 10 rebounds, junior Coco Hobson recorded her second double-double of the season at Christian Brothers University. The Brandon, Miss., native scored 15 points and grabbed 18 rebounds in the meeting against CBU earlier this season in Clinton.
•   Jamilah Sanders became the second Lady Choctaw this season to score 20-plus points in a contest. The senior totaled a career-high 22 points in the win at Christian Brothers. Lauran Sheriff scored 20 points against Montevallo on Nov. 29.
•   Five Lady Choctaws scored in double figures in the win at Christian Brothers. Jamilah Sanders and Shanell Kitchens each recorded highs against the Lady Bucs. Sanders' 22 points marked a career-high while Kitchens' 13 points became her first, collegiate game in double-digits and her season-best.
•   With a season-high 19 points in the loss at Union, Coco Hobson tied Zariah Matthews for the team lead with games in double figures with nine. Hobson has provided double-digit, scoring efforts in the last four outings this season.
•   For the second straight contest, Mississippi College will face a nationally-ranked opponent from the State of Tennessee. Lee is ranked 22nd in the latest D2SIDA.com Top 25. Union was ranked seventh in the Women's Basketball Coaches' Association (WBCA) Top 25 last week.
•   Junior Zariah Matthews stands as the Gulf South Conference leader in free throw percentage this season. The Bogue Chitto, Miss., product is shooting 82.3 percent from the charity stripe and is 1.3 percentage points better than Kenzie Jones from Christian Brothers (81.0). Matthews is 51-of-62 shots from the stripe in 15 games.
•   Lee enters Thursday's contest riding a seven-game win streak. The Lady Flames are tied for tops in the GSC with in-state foe Union University with a 9-1 record. LU claimed a 27-point win over West Alabama on Saturday, Jan. 19 to extend its win streak.
•   The Lady Flames have a pair averaging double figures in the scoring column this season led by Abby Bertram with 14.1 points per game. Haley Schubert sits second on the team with 11.2 points. Becca Cheeks paces LU with six rebounds per contest.
•   UAH enters the weekend having won three of its last four contests following a 13-point win over West Alabama on Thursday, Jan. 17. The victory came on the heels of a 87-64 loss at Lee on Saturday, Jan. 12.
•   Four Chargers are averaging double figures this season led by Aryn Sanders' 17.4 points per game. Sanders also paces the Blue and White with 8.3 boards. Baylee Johnson sits second on the squad with 14.5 points. Holly Harris and Katie Speegle round out the quartet with 10.5 and 10.2 points per game respectively.
Mississippi College is a private Christian university located in Clinton, Mississippi with an enrollment of over 5,000 students. MC recently finished their transition process back to NCAA Division II and the Gulf South Conference and will be competing for conference and national championships in the 2016-17 academic year.
